Synesthesia

Synesthesia

I am reading a book about synesthesia.  It is “a neurologically-based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.”  Two people per 1 million have it.  People who have it can actually feel the shape of certain flavors or see the colors of certain sounds.

The book addresses the purely scientific elements of it, but the more I read about it the more it makes me think of some of the descriptions of heaven.  When you read books like Isaiah and Revelation (ch.4)  you see some really odd descriptions of things.  So it got me thinking:  Maybe people with synesthesia are really more in tune with the reality of the extra dimensional elements of God.  Verses like “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps. 34:8) take on a whole new meaning when you realize there are people that might actually be able to do that… Strange thought eh?

So, a new goal in my life is to see if I can become more synesthetic (if that’s a word) in my outlook on life.  I am a left brain, logical type.  I am going to try to think more with my right brain and see if I can start to experience life for more than face value and what “makes sense” – go with a little more intuition.  Try to hear sights and smell sounds.  We’ll see how it goes.
