You’ll never take me alive!

You’ll never take me alive!

Lots of artistic liberty was taken with the new Narnia movie.  Some complain, but there is one particular scene that I applaud.  The crew of the Dawn Treader enters Dark Island unsure of what they will encounter.  There they discover a haggard Lord Rhoop standing on a small island swinging his sword and shouting “You’ll never take me!” at the darkness and fog all around him.

I’ve been there.  Times in life when I felt like a tired old man trapped alone on an island in the darkness. Days, weeks and months pass but the darkness never lifts.  Depression sets in and there is no light at the end of the tunnel.  Even when your rescue is imminent you can’t believe it.

The movie scene reminded me of Ephesians 6:13:

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

After you have done everything else – stand.  Sometimes that’s all you can do.  When the darkness won’t lift, do not surrender.  You may feel beaten down and oppressed, but you still hold a sword of Truth in your hand.  Stand tall and keep swinging against the darkness – it won’t last forever.  It will be defeated. The battle belongs to the Lord.  Stand firm.

2 Chronicles 20:17
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem.

P.S. I highly recommend the movie!
