When God is Picking on You

When God is Picking on You

I was talking to some friends the other day who are getting the living daylights beat out of them.  I really feel for their situation, because I’ve been through similar times.  Those refining seasons when God seems more against you than for you.  You wish the Big Guy would find someone else to pick on.

From the outside looking in, I see nothing but good things ahead for them.  But when you are in the pit you can’t see it.  The only encouragement I could give them is this:

Hold on.

I think that’s basically what Paul was saying when he wrote:

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything – stand. (Eph. 6:13)

There will be times when you’ve done all you can and things still aren’t getting better.  Your enemy is in full attack mode and God doesn’t seem to want to bail you out.

I wish I could give a five-step program to get you through those times.  But I think the best advice is simply this – stand.

Don’t shrink back.  Don’t assume the fetal position.  Just stand.  God will give the grace if you’ll just hold on.  He even works the dark times out for his glory and our joy.
