When You Miss Your Cue

When You Miss Your Cue

Yesterday I messed up on a song I was leading.  I started too late.  You see, we play along with loop tracks on some songs.  The tracks add all sorts of cool sounds and make the band seem better than we are.  Only problem is, you can’t mess up and you have to start at just the right time.

My buddy Alex makes all the tracks on his computer (pic below).  He lays out the structure of the song.  He knows those loops in and out because he created them.  So yesterday as soon as I started too late I realized it and gave him a scared look.  We were about to have a musical train wreck.

Alex already knew we were off.  He smiled and calmly stepped back to his computer while strumming his guitar.  I kept playing confidently.  I don’t know what he did, but somehow he got everything back on track.

Alex isn’t God, but it reminded me of something.  The Creator of the universe is writing the music of your life.  He knows all the ins and outs.  He made you and the world you are playing in.  It’s really comforting to know that even when we get a late start or mess up he is perfectly capable of stepping in and redeeming it all.
