The Best Way to Fight Back

The Best Way to Fight Back

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. -Matthew 5:5

That verse frustrates me. You see meekness is not weakness, it’s strength under control.

When I get burned or hung out to dry by someone I have the strength to fight back.  And believe you me I can fight back with a vengeance. You wouldn’t believe the evil things that go through my head. Scary thing is – I could actually pull most of them off.

But God seems to say, “Hey, you can fight back if you want, but there’s no reward at the end if you do.”

That’s the way most of God’s promises go.

Option A: You can do things on your own and get immediate results.
Option B: You can control your human nature and watch God take up your cause.

I’ve done both. I usually end up looking the fool when I choose Option A. But when I take the strength I have to do things on my own and surrender it to God he ends up taking up my cause. He fights for me.  Sure, I may not see immediate results and it may look like they are “getting away with it.” But one day real soon choosing meekness will pay off with a sweet reward.

Note to self: Let God fight my battles even when I have the power (and probably the right) to fight back.
