God’s Mean Streak

God’s Mean Streak

I’m pretty sure God spoke to me this morning through this verse:

Come, let us return to the Lord;
for he has torn us, that he may heal us;
he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.

After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live before him.

Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;
his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth.

                                                                        Hosea 6:1-3

I won’t bother you with all the details. But the first and last part are quite a statement. The author, inspired by God, declares that God himself tore him apart. But he says it was for a purpose.

Then at the end he essentially says, now it’s time to really push into knowing God. That’s not what I normally do. I back off when I get torn apart.

I know lots of people will disagree with what I’m about to say, but I think those people are choosing to read the Bible how they want to read it – not for what it says.

God allows people to be torn. But it’s always for a purpose. But…I’m pretty convinced you’ll only see that purpose if you press on to know the Lord. Otherwise you just get bitter.

Let us press on to know the Lord – this is all going somewhere good.
