That Trip I Took to Australia

I remembered something yesterday while talking to my friend Brad.

In 2005 I took a trip to Australia. A friend was supposed to go with me, but at the very last minute he wasn’t able to come. So I went by myself. I was kind of distraught that I was by myself.

I got there on a Saturday morning. That night I decided I would go to Hillsong Church. Something not on the initial schedule I had with my friend. He wouldn’t have been interested in going.

Someone there started asking me more questions about myself than I really wanted to answer. Somehow Guatemala entered the conversation. “My friend wants to go to Chile!” The guy said. “How nice.” I responded, thinking Chile is about 3000 miles from Guatemala.

The service started and the guy left. The final prayer was being said when I decided to sneak out. Across the auditorium I saw a dude making a beeline my way. Oh no, that guy is coming to talk to me. He got to me before I could get safely out of the building.

“Hey there, my friend said you know about Latin America.” He said.

That guy ended up coming to Guatemala with me six months later.

On that trip he met my friend Brad. A year or two later Brad met the dude’s sister. They fell in love and now my friend lives in Australia with his wife – the sister of the dude I met through a chance encounter when I made a whimsical decision to visit a church because my plans had been blown to heck.

So that was a very short version of a long story, but two thoughts came to mind:

  1. You really never know what God has planned. He has a way of putting us in the right place at the right time. It’s like he is in control or something.  J
  2. You never know when God may use you to bring something awesome into someone else’s life just because you do something off the cuff.

God is always working. Doing his thing. Getting the job done.
