There’s No Going Back

There’s No Going Back

I met a guy the other day whose face was horribly disfigured when he was burned in a fire. I thought about what it must have been like the first time he looked himself in the mirror and realized his life would never be the same again.

I was talking to a friend of mine who found out last year that she has Multiple Sclerosis. I asked her what it was like when she realized that at age 25 (apart from God healing her) she would be facing this disease the rest of her life.

I’ve never had anything as dramatic as those folks, but I have had several key moments in life when I realized that life had just changed. Things would never go back to the way they used to be.

I had one of those moments recently and this verse popped into my head:

Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. Ecclesiastes 7:10

The wisest man who ever lived (besides Jesus) says it’s not wise to look back and wish things were the way they used to be.

I’m going to be pondering that truth for a while I think.
