Free Cruise to Brazil Starts Today

A friend sent me an email yesterday telling me Happy Thanksgiving. He’s on a boat somewhere off the coast of Brazil. He was telling me how hard it is for all the guys on his boat being away. It’s kind of lonely out there. They miss all the family, food and football.

He told me that it’s really been driving home a reality for him. Being away from all the holiday excitement and comfort reminds him just how close God really is. It reminded me of a verse:

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
Psalm 139

Holiday madness begins today. It’s about to get crazy. I’m going to hear enough Christmas music to make me puke. It’s going to be noisy. Traffic will be hell. I’m going to feel tons of pressure to buy junk.

I reminded myself this morning to make sure I take time every day to get on my figurative boat off the coast of Brazil. Time to step away and realize that God is very, very near to us. That’s really what we are celebrating this season. Right?
