What About Mwoakilloa?

I’ve been reading lots of books lately that talk about how we are supposed to maximize our potential and expand our influence.

They say Jesus wants us having a massive global impact. Grow! Grow! Grow! If your ministry isn’t growing to ginormous size it’s dying! Go big!

I like that idea because it fuels an ambiguous ambition deep inside me.

But then I started getting worried for the folks at Mwoakilloa Protestant Church. (map below) What are they supposed to do? Are they just stuck having minimum influence? Will Jesus be disappointed with them? How do you have a massive global impact when you have no airport?  When there’s like one hundred people on your South Pacific island?

Maybe big isn’t the big idea. Maybe the big idea is “to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8) whether we are in New York City or a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean. If we all thought that big wouldn’t we get the job done?
