You’re Doing Something Right When…

Seven guys have taken on a major challenge over the next six months with me. It’s a program called Summit Life. We’ve all committed to:

  1. 100 hours of prayer
  2. Reading books on six different topics
  3. A physical fitness regimen
  4. Reading through the New Testament
  5. Hiking into the Grand Canyon
  6. Climbing Pike’s Peak

It’s a really diverse group of guys. We’ve got an Air Force pilot, a lawyer, a youth pastor, a senior pastor, a college professor, a farmer, and a music industry professional.

As I’m getting to know the guys better it’s always fascinating to hear what God is doing in their hearts through the commitment they’ve made. I’ve heard lots of different stories about great stuff that has happened so far and we are only one month in.

I’m also amazed at how hard these guys are getting hit. Deaths in families, interpersonal challenges, and other opposition seems to be coming at them in waves.

It’s reminded me of two things:

  1. When we commit to radically pursuing God, God responds and does amazing things.
  2. When we commit to radically pursuing God, the enemy responds.

God always wins. But it shouldn’t surprise us if when we set out to know God at a deeper lever we face some opposition. It’s a sign we are doing something right.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:5-7
