Are You Infected?

Are You Infected?

I used to have a boss who was not known to be a person of integrity. She would say one thing and do the complete opposite if the decision wasn’t expedient for her. She’d put me in uncomfortable positions by asking me to tell half-truths, or lies, to clients and employees.

I didn’t know how miserable I was until she retired. All of the sudden it was as if a weight was lifted. I hadn’t realized how much her lack of integrity was affecting me. It had all happened so slowly, like a frog being boiled in a pot.

Fast forward.

I’ve been watching some friends from a distance who work closely with a leader with a known track record of questionable integrity. I saw them the other day and was amazed at just how sullen they seemed. I’m guessing they are getting worn out like I did with my boss. They’ve lost a joie de vivre and innocence they used to have. It’s really sad.

Lack of integrity spreads like gangrene.

But on the brighter side, doing the right thing can be contagious too. Ever noticed how inspired you get when you hear stories of someone doing what’s right? Especially if it costs them something. I don’t know about you, but it always makes me want to be a better person.

Inspire someone today by doing the right thing. Set an example. Lord knows we could use more light in this dark world.

“…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)
