When God Asks For Your Car

When God Asks For Your Car

I’ve often wondered how I would respond if Jesus showed up and asked me to give him all my money, my house, my car or even my eyesight.

In all honesty, I really think I’d do it. I mean, it’s Jesus, standing there in the flesh. The directions would be clear. Even if I ended up looking like a fool I’d have confidence that I had seen Jesus, even if no one believed me.

That led me to wonder why I am so afraid to do it when I can’t see him in person. When I feel prompted to give until it hurts. Or when I feel like I’m supposed to share something I don’t really want to lose.

Enter Hebrews 11.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.

All the big names in the Bible were lionized because they acted on something they didn’t see. Abraham headed out with no destination. Noah built an ark.

I guess maybe faith isn’t faith until there’s no guarantee – no assurance that God is actually asking you to give away that money. Or make that request. Or take that risk.

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6
