If My Plane Crashes, Please Know…

If My Plane Crashes, Please Know…

This morning I shot up in my bed at 2:59am with a sense of impending doom.

We are flying out this afternoon and I think that video of the plane falling out of the sky they keep running is messing with my subconscious.

In a rare moment of perspicacity I actually started quoting Bible verses to myself rather than just continue mentally wallowing in terror.

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

All the verses had one consistent word: Trust.

I’ve often wondered how the wisest people I know manage to stay calm in the most intense circumstances. I think it’s the end of the world and they are just sitting there unflustered.

It makes me believe that somewhere at the core of wisdom is a deep sense of trust in God. Trust that God’s principles work. Trust that he is working all things together for good. In real time, not just in cute Christian paraphenalia. Trust that even if he allows my plane to fall from the sky, he has a reason.

That’s not natural. That kind of confidence comes from a deep place.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
