So I Cheated. What’s the Big Deal?

So I Cheated. What’s the Big Deal?

Last night I had a disturbing conversation. I was sitting across from a friend who had cheated on his wife. I was really mad at him.

He kept saying, “What’s the big deal about this?” I was furious that he wasn’t getting what the big deal was. I wanted to punch his face.

And then I woke up. Whew! Thank the Lord it was only a dream. But it was so vivid and real I actually woke up with tears in my eyes.

It’s had me thinking all morning.

You know, I’ve never met anyone who woke up one morning and said, “Hey, I think I’m gonna destroy my life today!”

No. It’s always more subtle. It comes from making little bad decisions that take you down a path you don’t want to be on. You shrug it off thinking What’s the big deal about this? Before you know it – bam! – you discover the big deal about it.

I have to constantly remind myself to ask myself the right questions. The best question I’ll ever ask myself is:

Is it wise?

If I keep that question constantly in front of me I’m pretty convinced I will avoid a lot of trouble in this life.
