Raving One Star Reviews

I went online to look at reviews for a new battery case I wanted for my phone.

Here are some of the reviews I found for the case I bought:

★☆☆☆☆: This case sucks. I hate it. The blue recharge light is so bright that it keeps me awake at night.

★☆☆☆☆: I hate this case. It stopped working after six months. I called the manufacturer and they sent me a new one, but still, this should never have happened. I was without a case for a whole week!

Most of the reviews were positive, but in my opinion the negative ones were just plain ridiculous.

It’s interesting that in this new world we live in everyone can freely voice their opinion to the entire world. It doesn’t matter how unreasonable or small-minded their view is, they can share it just as loud as someone who may be an expert in the field.

It got me thinking about critics. Do you realize:

  1. The most critical people seem to have lots of free time. There could be a reason for that…
  2. Anyone can be critical. The stupidest person that ever lived can be critical. It takes no foresight or vision. All it takes is opening your mouth and complaining.
  3. You can have the best product in the world and you will still get complaints. Check out online reviews for the Bible.
  4. Just because someone criticizes something doesn’t mean it’s true. We don’t know that they used the product the way it was actually intended.

All that has led me to these conclusions:

  1. Think twice before you criticize, it may say more about you than the thing you are criticizing.
  2. Ignore the critics. Get a team of brutally honest advisors and listen to them.
