Good News on Thinning Hair

Good News on Thinning Hair

I got some bad news last week. Existential reality type bad news. But then a bunch of fun things happened and I forgot.

Yesterday I got more bad news. It reminded me of the bad news I had pushed from my mind.

At nearly the same moment my computer died. Again. I had to take it to the computer shop at the mall. I entered through a store.

Two hip teens greeted me with a cool and distant nod that said We are hot and you should want to be like us. I was slightly intimidated, so I fluffed my hair. That only served to remind me that it’s getting thinner by the month.

An attractive Israeli stood in my path offering me sea salt from the Dead Sea. “It will reduce the signs of aging and get rid of wrinkles around your eyes.” She said.

I fluffed my hair again and rubbed the wrinkles. It reminded me, I am aging.

I entered the computer store. Loud music was playing. Another group of teenagers, all too young to realize what is waiting for them in the real world, gave me the minimal service necessary to do their job. They plugged my name into their green iPad and motioned me to the bar.

I sat at the bar waiting for help and thought.

Smoke and mirrors. It’s all smoke and mirrors man.

The cool clothes. The sea salts. Youth. It’s all a distraction from the ultimate reality.

We are all careening toward the same place. No clothes or sea salts or hipness will stop it. We are all going to die and in an instant we’ll all realize what was most important.

That can be discouraging or encouraging. Depends on how you are living I guess.

One day it’s all going to go away. The pain. The aging. The suffering. The little frustrations. The disappointments. Gone. Poof. In an instant.

So I live my life with that Day in mind. I enjoy the good times and endure the hard knowing that one day I’ll be with Jesus.

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2
