Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

There are approximately 5.6 million people in the Houston area. We moved here last May and I have met about thirty of those people. But they live all over the city. Bottom line: I never see anyone I know when I’m out.

I was in Corpus Christi last weekend. I got to see tons of friends. Everywhere I go in Corpus I run into someone I know. Restaurants, grocery stores, the gym.

Driving back to Houston yesterday I was feeling kind of down thinking, I live somewhere that I’ll never see someone I know. It’s lonely here. I was kind of feeling sorry for myself.

I stopped into a grocery store close to my house to restock the fridge. A guy called my name from across the store. It was one of the thirty people I know. He was on the complete opposite side of town from where he lives. We talked for a while. He’s going to work at the cafe Emily and I started in Peru.

I walked away stunned. It was as if God was saying. “I know where you are.”

I’m a guppy in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but God still knows exactly where I am. Little signs like that also convince me that he has placed me here.

God knows where you are. He hasn’t forgotten you. He’s working behind the scenes right where you are. Keep your eyes open for the extraordinary things he is doing around you.
