Taylor Swift
Yesterday, I was about to hit send on an article I wrote, but I stopped. A bolt of fear shot through my chest. I hesitated to send the article.

My mind started racing. It’s been quite disturbing lately to see all the hateful commentary thrown around online from the safety of a computer keyboard. Civility seems dead. Opinions (no matter how unqualified) abound.

I hesitated to send the article because I started thinking about all the horrible things people could say about it. They could easily resort to personal attacks on my beliefs and opinions.

And then the craziest thing happened. The Taylor Swift song, Shake It Off, randomly started playing on my Pandora station. It clearly did not belong on that station, but I’m thinking it may have been providential as it reminded me that:

Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate… but baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake. Shake it off. Ohh. Ohh. Ohh.

I hit SEND.

The only way to avoid criticism in this world is to do nothing. And that’s simply not acceptable in my book. So I harden myself to criticism and push forward.

If you set out to do anything in life you’d better get ready. Some 40-year-old dude who doesn’t have a job and lives in his parent’s basement commenting on blogs in his underwear is gonna say something critical. But just remember, the people who are actually doing something rarely criticize. They are too busy creating and changing the world.

Create. Be one of the world-changers. Don’t let the haters get you down.

The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. Proverbs 29:25
