The Dangerous Place I’m In

Dangerous Place
We didn’t get any trick or treaters at our place Friday. Consequently we had lots of 3 Musketeers bars sitting around. I avoid candy, but I grabbed one on Friday. It was good. So I grabbed another.

This morning after breakfast I grabbed another. I realized that we were down to 5 bars left. Where did the other 19 go? Emily was gone all weekend. Uh oh.

I usually don’t eat candy because I’m always training or preparing for a long, arduous hike. I can’t afford to make it more difficult for myself by eating poorly. But I don’t have another hike until next spring. So I’ve backed off on working out and watching what I eat. I’ve made a lot of exceptions.

I realized today while licking chocolate off my lips that I’m in a dangerous place. I don’t have any pressure on me to stay healthy. I don’t have a pending hike that forces me to stay focused. Consequently, I’m eating a lot of stuff I shouldn’t eat. And I’m slacking off on working out.

I’m pretty convinced that if you are going to be all God has for you you need to make sure to keep the pressure on. Set goals that force you to stay focused and committed. The pressure is good. It keeps you sharp. Don’t let your guard down. Good things come to those who challenge themselves.

Be all God has for you. Set goals. Challenge your self. Stay focused.

But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Cor. 9:27
