Can You Really Make a Difference?

A Difference
When I was a college pastor I would pour my heart into preparing a message about dating or relationships or finances. The very next week someone would invariably come to me in tears after making the very mistake I was trying to help them avoid by sharing that message. I often wondered, Am I really making any kind of difference?

When we lived in Mexico I tried hard to help the people in our neighborhood. Those very same people broke in and robbed us. It made me question, Am I really making any kind of difference?

Right now I spend months preparing for trips. I spend hours behind a keyboard writing. I often wonder, Am I really making any kind of difference?

But then I think of Sarah. She was part of our college ministry. She started following Jesus and he changed her life – radically.

I think of Orlando and Andi who were in Mexico. They still contact me sharing how God is working in their lives.

Whatever you are doing – raising kids, working at a church, teaching kindergarten, working in a cubicle – it’s easy to wonder, Am I really making any kind of difference?

I’ve learned this. You won’t always see the results you want. But there will always be at least one person you are touching if you are focused on loving those around you. I’m actually pretty sure it’s more – but you may not see that right away.

Stay faithful to sharing God’s love with people and I can promise you this: You are making a difference.

So, get out there and keep on making a difference.

By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:35
