The Word That Opens Limitless Doors

The Word That Opens Limitless Doors

When I was sixteen I called into an all-request radio show to have them play a song I liked. This was back in the old days before you could find anything you wanted online in seconds and dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Nobody answered the phone to take my request. So I kept calling. Finally, after about twenty minutes the DJ picked up. I could tell he was flustered. So I asked, “Are you taking calls and running the show?”

“Yes. Our call screener didn’t come in today.”

Without thinking about the implications I blurted out. “Want me to come down there and answer the calls?”

I hung up the phone and realized I couldn’t drive. So I ran downstairs and begged my parents to take me. Dad drove me downtown. Driving to the station I also realized I’d be taking calls in Spanish, a language I had only started learning two years earlier and was still not fluent in. That night was nerve-racking and thrilling all at the same time.

Three weeks later I was a regular DJ on that radio show.

Billionaire Richard Branson once wrote, “If someone offers you an opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!”

Most of the cool stuff that has happened in my life didn’t come because I had some superior talent or knowledge. It happened because I said yes – sometimes without thinking. Then God blessed my willingness to try something new and let me do something I never dreamed possible.

God isn’t looking for the most talented, most intelligent, most ridiculously good-looking people most of the time. He’s looking for available and teachable people. He likes to do crazy-cool stuff with those folks so he gets all the credit. If you want to tap into the fun I recommend you just start saying yes to opportunities then counting on God’s grace to take you places you could never go on your own.

Be courageous. Say yes and let God fill in the details.

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8
