2 Reasons to Ignore the Experts

2 Reasons to Ignore the Experts

Experts
Yesterday I talked to a lady who has written a book she hopes to get published. She was discouraged because a well-known person in the publishing world told her that publishers wouldn’t want her book. Not because of the book, but because nobody had ever heard of her. She said that her dream of getting published felt impossible.

I reminded her of two things:

1. Experts are wrong all the time. The first expert I sent Vision Map said that it wasn’t publishable because it was too short. Not to mention, no one knows who I am. No publisher would accept it. Since they weren’t willing to even try I personally sent it to Moody Press, a company who I knew was open to creative ideas, and they took it.

The President of IBM Computers, the leading computer innovators in 1943, said, “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” Oops. He missed the mark on that one.

2. Impossible things happen every day. A few weeks ago I had a text conversation with a friend of mine. He was in a plane, flying over a typhoon over the ocean between the Philippines and South Korea. He was using the onboard Wifi. If you would have told me just twenty years ago that was possible I would have laughed and said you watched one too many episodes of the Jetsons. But it’s real my friends.

It’s wise to listen to experts. But they are people too. The world is constantly changing and even the experts can’t keep up with everything.

And then there’s the ultimate variable in the equation: God.

If you feel God has called you to do something then you need to just do it, even if the experts say it’s impossible. Take their wisdom, but move forward. You never know what could happen.

Amigos, the world is full of possibilities.

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 1 Cor. 1:27

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
