Why I’m Worried About Obamacare

Lots of people have been asking me, “Is Emily going to keep being a flight attendant now that the baby is here?”

The simple answer is, “I’m not sure.”

The main reason we keep her job is because of the amazing insurance it provides. The salary isn’t so great, but the benefits are. To buy anything close to what we have would run around $2000 per month that we don’t have. Even the cheapest Obamacare insurance available is not cheap.

I find myself worrying about it. What will happen if Emily doesn’t feel comfortable going back to work? Will we be able to afford insurance?

But there are two things I learned a long time ago that I have to remember.

  1. Never make a decision until you have to.
  2. Worrying about what you will decide in the future will accomplish nothing.

Most of us spend enormous amounts of time worrying about what’s ahead. For most things in life there’s really nothing you can do until you get to the moment. Life is constantly changing. How things are today may be completely different next month. To make a decision before you have to means you don’t have current facts.

So for now, relax. Stop worrying. Be wise and do some research. Then once the time comes to decide, pray about it and trust that God will give you the wisdom you need.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7
