Why Your Child Drives Me Crazy

Why Your Child Drives Me Crazy

Before Emily and I had Elise we would babysit a few of our friends’ kids here and there. It was fun mostly, until they started crying. Then it got stressful. I just couldn’t stand the crying. My body would tense up and I’d get so annoyed. I couldn’t understand how parents could just let their kids cry and stay so calm.

So when Emily and I found out we were going to have a baby one of my big concerns was how I would handle all the crying. I was afraid I’d be in a perpetual state of stress.

But amazingly, when Elise cries it doesn’t bother me at all. In a strange way, it actually makes me love her more.

I’m pretty convinced it’s because God is really good at giving us the exact grace we need to handle whatever we are facing. He knows what we need to make it through anything that he allows into our life.

What’s interesting is, you only get it when you need it. Not before. So there’s no point worrying about it before. Just trust that when God says, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. (2 Cor. 12:9) he means it. It’ll be there when you need it.

Trust that God knows what you are facing. He will give you the strength and grace to shoulder whatever change or challenge is in front of you. Whether it’s a life transition, a relational or financial struggle, or just a baby trying to communicate – God’s got your back, so move forward boldly in his grace.
