The Certified Letter That Nearly Ruined Me

The Certified Letter That Nearly Ruined Me

A few years back I got a certified letter in the mail from a person who was threatening to sue me for something absolutely ridiculous. A lawyer friend got involved and helped me handle the situation. I lost so much sleep. I was so stressed. In fact, I was just about to give up on the whole ministry I was running over that letter. Ultimately, nothing came of the threatening letter, but it still scared the heck out of me.

So the other day I got a notice that I had missed delivery of a certified letter. My heart rate immediately surged. My mind flashed back to that last certified letter I got. No good comes from certified letters.

I started thinking back to the good that came of that last certified letter. In many ways it was a wake-up call for me to get more professional. It helped me create some legal structures I had been avoiding. It also helped me take safety more seriously. That adversity prepared me for where I am today.

Adversity is the price of forward movement.

Ask anyone who has done anything significant. They all faced adversity and challenges. Most will admit that it was what made them tough enough to face more challenges ahead.

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Pr. 24:10

Don’t be afraid of adversity. It’s miserable while you are in the middle of it. But I’m almost certain you will survive and you will come out stronger on the other side. Even if you don’t survive, if your faith is in Christ, you can be confident that there is reward for perseverance on the other side.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36
