When You Are Certain The Adventure Is Over

When You Are Certain The Adventure Is Over

I’ll never forget saying our final goodbyes as we moved from Cusco, Peru back to the United States. I was really sad. I cried on the cab ride to the airport. I distinctly remember thinking: The adventure is over. I was certain that moving back to the U.S. meant a life of mundane normalcy.

Last week I went back to Peru. I took a team of twenty-one guys hiking on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – again. It was my fifth time since we had left. As our plane was descending past the 20,000ft snow-capped peaks of the Andes I couldn’t help but think how wrong I was about leaving Cusco. The adventure was only beginning. Since then I’ve traveled to dozens of new countries, led teams to the highest point in Africa, rafting in the Grand Canyon, all over the U.S., and started the biggest adventure of all – we had a baby!

When God moves you on to something new or seasons change it’s easy to get discouraged thinking that the adventure may be over. But I’m convinced that if you stay open to whatever he asks – no matter how mundane or boring it may seem – he will always take you from one adventure to another.

Be courageous enough to do whatever God asks and no matter where you end up it will be an adventure. It may be hard, but I can guarantee you’ll love the results.
